New at Apex Optical: Innovative Stellest™ Lenses Designed to Slow Childhood Myopia

Apex Optical is pleased to announce that we will now be carrying Stellest™ lenses by Essilor, an innovative spectacle lens designed not just to correct nearsightedness (myopia) in children, but to help slow its progression as well. This represents a significant advance in pediatric vision care, and it aligns with our ongoing commitment to offering solutions that support both immediate visual comfort and long-term eye health.

Myopia is increasingly common in children – driven by factors such as increased screen time and reduced outdoor activity – and in many cases it continues to worsen as a child grows. Traditional single-vision lenses correct blurry distance vision, but they don’t influence the underlying progression of the condition. Stellest lenses are engineered to do both: maintain clear, comfortable vision and actively help slow the progression of myopia in young wearers.

At the heart of these lenses is Essilor’s proprietary H.A.L.T. (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target) technology, a carefully designed optical pattern embedded into the lens. Around a clear central zone that corrects your child’s prescription, Stellest lenses incorporate a constellation of tiny, aspherical lenslets. Together, these micro-structures create a “volume of myopic defocus” – an optical signal believed to encourage the eye to grow more slowly, reducing the tendency toward increasing myopia over time.

Clinically, Stellest lenses have shown meaningful results. Research has demonstrated that, when worn for at least 12 hours per day, these lenses can slow myopia progression on average by approximately 67 percent compared with standard single vision lenses. This effect is cumulative: the earlier and more consistently the lenses are worn during childhood, the greater the potential for reducing the overall impact of myopia later in life.

A key benefit of Stellest lenses is that they look and feel like regular glasses. There’s no need for complex wearing schedules, special cleaning routines, or invasive treatments; children simply wear them throughout the day like any other pair of glasses. The central prescription zone ensures sharp distance vision, while the surrounding lenslets work quietly in the background.

For parents and caregivers, this combination of everyday functionality and advanced eye-health support is especially compelling. Slowing myopia progression can help reduce the likelihood of high myopia and its associated risks later in adulthood, including retinal issues and other complications. While not a cure, Stellest lenses add an evidence-based tool to our array of pediatric vision care options, and they can be seamlessly incorporated into your child’s routine.

At Apex Optical, we’ve long believed that the best eyewear solutions are those that blend quality, comfort, and long-term value. Stellest lenses embody that philosophy, offering children and their families a way to see clearly now while taking proactive steps to support healthier visual development. If your child has been prescribed glasses for myopia and you’re interested in learning more about myopia-control lenses, our team would be happy to walk you through how Stellest lenses work, what to expect, and whether they may be a good fit for your child’s needs.
